Olympia House History

Our-Philosophy-Honoring-Diversity

Olympia House Addiction Recovery Center offers those seeking recovery from addiction much more than a bucolic country setting; the center is founded on the principle of individualized treatment, knowing that every person is unique regarding their recovery plan.

Unlike many addiction recovery centers under corporate ownership, this privately owned facility offers much more than a twelve-step approach toward recovery. Residents are provided with a treatment team that meets individually a minimum of four times per week, including an assigned therapist and a drug and alcohol counselor.

Olympia House is situated on the former site of St. Anthony Farm drug and alcohol rehabilitation center, which was owned by the Catholic Church for nearly four decades. The property was sold to dairy farmers Kathy and Joe Tresch, who, with land broker T.J. Nelson, Dr. Wayne Thurston, and a handful of other local investors, created Sonoma Recovery Services to run Olympia House.

Thurston retired from daily operations but continues as a member of the Sonoma Recovery Services Board. At the time of the facility’s opening, he shared the vision that Olympia House would provide a deeply personalized approach to addiction recovery. Add to that vision the advantages of relocating individuals away from their usual environment to focus on their recovery in a tranquil setting surrounded by picturesque rolling hills, working dairy farms, and quaint old barns.

The Olympia House Philosophy

The Olympia House philosophy is based upon the recovery model of treatment for chemical dependency.

Recovery from chemical dependency is possible with the active participation of the individual in developing a person-centered, individualized recovery plan. At Olympia House Rehabilitation Center, we help you develop a personalized plan that encompasses the whole person and integrates the latest in evidence-based treatment.

There are also many peer support groups available to you.

To be effective, treatment addresses the unique biological, psychological, social, and spiritual components that are interfering with the individual’s ability to achieve a life of meaning and satisfaction.

Individualized Treatment

Unlike most other recovery centers, we know that everyone is different and that no one approach is adequate. We offer a wide array of treatment options that allows us to develop individualized treatment plans customized to the needs of each client. We also value the relationships individuals may have established with their physicians, psychotherapists and others and invite their ongoing participation.

It is essential that we get to know each client individually by working together to identify and explore personal goals, needs, hopes, concerns, and history through multiple assessments. From these collaborative sessions, we work with clients to create custom treatment plans that are tailored to each individual.

The average length of stay for clients enrolled in the Olympia House residential program is 28 days. During this time, residents become actively engaged in working a recovery program that they can then continue after graduating from our care and re-entering their lives.

Honoring Diversity

Olympia House is committed to respecting each individual for their unique identity that allows for the expression of gender and sexual orientation. We recognize, honor, and celebrate the value of diversity in both our staff and our clients. This is reflected in our individualized approach to treatment that views individual differences as strengths.

Diversity represents the variety of experiences in a collective group. This includes cultural, familial, socioeconomic, educational, and religious backgrounds. We view diversity in any group as a powerful strength that offers new perspectives and greater understanding.

NOTE: Olympia House does not tolerate bigotry from its clients, staff, administrators or visitors.
